IDIOPATHIC HYPOVENTILATION CONGENITAL CENTRAL HYPOVENTILATION SYNDROME (CCHS)

Adults with Idiopathic Hypoventilation may present with severe hypoventilation with absent or modest coexisting pulmonary disease and in the absence of known causes of hypoventilation, such as myxedema, structural brainstem abnormalities, or sleep apnea. Because of the impaired ventilatory drive, patients may have little dyspnea and may present instead with signs of right-heart failure. Sleep may permit more serious hypoventilation and hypoxemia in this disorder.
